The McCall lab (http://mccall-lab.oucreate.com/) is looking for a highly motivated, organized, responsible person to work as a research assistant/technician. The successful candidate will perform in vivo mouse experiments and in vitro cell culture and molecular biology experiments that are central to the lab’s mission. There will also be opportunities to learn additional skills based on interest, such as liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and metabolomics data analysis. This is a dynamic and vibrant work environment that uses cutting-edge technologies to investigate host-microbe chemical communication and how they relate to health and disease.

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND

  • 24 months research or laboratory experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of experience.

 

Skills:

  • Proficient navigating and maintaining databases
  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines
  • Must be able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations
  • Detail-oriented and work independently as well as a team player.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and protocols.
  • Ability to write routine reports and email correspondence.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion.
  • Ability to speak effectively to present ideas and data analysis to supervisor.
  • Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.
  • Basic knowledge of internet.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Must be able to crouch, crawl, and reach
  • Research or laboratory environment

Department Preferences:

  • Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.
  • Ability to perform above-stated lab experiments, which may require standing or sitting at a biosafety cabinet for multiple consecutive hours.
  • 3 years of experience working with laboratory mice, molecular biology and/or cell culture experience.
