Under supervision, perform duties related to carpentry complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

The Facilities department has an opening for a Carpenter on the beautiful Ball State University campus! Job Function:

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

1.Vocational School Training.

Minimum Experience:

1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Carpentry as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training or four (4) years of verified proof of Carpentry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies and procedures, communications, and perform mathematical calculations.
3.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
5.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct and/or remodel University facilities.
  • Install and/or repair new and existing fixtures of University facilities.
  • Build and install cabinets, casework, furniture, counters, and plastic laminate tops.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials as required using hand and/or power tools, sketch and/or estimate jobs and/or materials as required.
  • Apply construction materials to floors, walls, ceilings and/or roofs of University buildings and facilities as required.
  • Fit, install and/or service doors, windows, glass, exit devices, door closures, automatic door openers, electrical and conventional lock sets and/or hardware as required.
  • Construct concrete forms; place and finish concrete as required.
  • Move and erect manual and power ladders, scaffolds, and other lift platforms as required.
  • Read and comprehend blue prints, drawings, diagrams, and sketches to insure proper specifications are followed, develop plans of action, and implement the work.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals, environmental concerns, building codes, and new technology as required.
  • Clean and maintain department equipment and tools as required; clean and organize shop area as required; clean job site as necessary; report all damaged and missing equipment or tools to the Supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
