The University Housing department has an opportunity for a Supervisor of Residence Hall Maintenance. The position provides assistance with planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance and repair of housing and traditional residence hall facilities and equipment, including direct supervision for 16 mechanics across campus and management of more than a million square feet of residence hall facilities. Responsible for bidding out of work that requires outside contractors, overseeing work performance of internal team members and external contractors, building collaborative partnerships with key campus partners, and maintaining standards of quality and craftmanship.

Job Function:

Provide assistance with planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance and repair of housing and traditional residence hall facilities and equipment, including direct supervision for 16 mechanics across campus and management of more than a million square feet of Residence Hall facilities. Responsible for bidding out work that requires outside contractors, oversee work performance of internal team members and external contractors, build collaborative partnership with key campus partners, and maintain standards of quality and craftmanship.

Minimum Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited institution in trade related experience. Example: Construction management or similar.

Minimum Experience:

Over three through five years of building maintenance experience; must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

Preferred Experience:

Additional related experience; additional years of supervisory experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision for 16 mechanics across campus including hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation. Manage more than a million square feet of Housing and Residence Life Facilities Space. This includes 13 multi-story residence halls. Assist with solution of facilities problems in housing, buildings, and with planning of major interior repairs to be completed throughout the year.
  • Review daily service requests, set priorities, and control workflow for daily work; respond to emergencies and crises as they occur for all traditional residence halls and mechanical and electrical housing facilities projects. Assign and review work, orient, and train staff.
  • Assist with planning and initiating preventative maintenance programs in residence halls and/or involving mechanical and electrical projects.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 16 direct reports, additional full-time and part-time staff, and student employees.
  • Maintain both quality and performance standards as established for building mechanics. Provide oversight for Journeyman electricians who report daily to review work orders, receive work assignments, and discuss progress on established processes.   • Tour facilities on a regular ongoing basis to review repairs and condition of facilities; assure that work areas are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Develop and implement timelines for preventative maintenance and establish goals in consultation with supervisor on deferred and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Verify and approve material requisitions for employees
  • Establish lines of communication with custodial and professional personnel within department; maintain necessary records and provide back-up for other personnel as needed.
  • Utilize a framework of equity and justice in all aspects of their day-to-day work. Promote equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers, (2) cultivation of an inclusive work environment, and (3) empowerment of people.
  • Serve on the leadership team on-call duty rotation for Housing Facilities. Serve on central leadership on-call after-hours, weekends, holiday duty rotation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
