Job Description Summary:
The Biostatistics Center of the Milken Institute School of Public Health is an off-campus medical research center of the George Washington University located in Rockville, Maryland. The Biostatistics Center (Center) serves as the coordinating center for large scale multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies funded by federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health. The Biostatistics Center is seeking a regular full-time Sr. Programmer and Database Administrator to work as a member of the coordinating center team for the NIH-funded clinical research study, the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS). This position contributes in the development and maintenance of complex datasets, creation of reports, preparation of data releases to external investigators and participates in data QC processes for the project. Additional responsibilities include ensuring data quality, data querying and analysis, and the documentation and maintenance of metadata and data dictionaries.
Essential duties include:
- Collaborates with statisticians and project managers to determine research studies’ data needs and to formulate approaches to meet them. Includes programming support for the external reports and for publications.
- Develops datasets for tracking and statistical purposes that incorporate multiple data sources. This may include organizing and managing data to perform preliminary statistical analyses.

- Oversees the development and maintenance of study reports for use by internal research staff and by the broader research group including clinical center program coordinators, Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators.
- Documents and summarizes data set content and technical details through metadata and data dictionaries to transfer knowledge to other research staff and statisticians as well as for public or repository release data sets.
- Evaluates and determines future programming needs to support the goals, objectives and/or research activities. Performs strategic planning and determines future requirements with a goal towards process improvement or automation.

- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- High level SAS and R programming and good technical writing skills for program documentation.
- Previous experience in clinical trials/data management with strong scientific and quantitative skills.
- Experience in the fields of diabetes and cognitive health.
- Looking for problem solver who can both take initiative and work effectively within the group
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with experience.
