Job Description Summary:
GW Libraries and Academic Innovation, the nexus for cross-disciplinary collaboration across campus, is responsible for online learning programs, academic technology, and faculty teaching initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Faculty Development, the Educational Developer works within the Division’s Instructional Core.

This position will support various high-impact educational development activities, work to promote teaching excellence and innovation across the University, and help build the teaching community at the George Washington University.

The Educational Developer responsibilities include:

Consulting with faculty about evidence-based teaching strategies, course design, use of media for teaching, assessment and feedback, and strategies for in person, online and hybrid learning.
Developing and implementing workshops and resources to support faculty development for teaching in person and online (e.g., interactive seminars, learning communities, teaching orientations) and for enhancing instructors’ digital communications and digital fluency skills.
Researching and writing resource materials for faculty about teaching, design of instruction, and use of media for teaching.
Staying abreast of and helping disseminate research and emerging developments regarding evidenced-based teaching strategies, faculty development, assessing learning outcomes, and online learning approaches.
Assisting in teaching a foundational course for new Teaching Assistants.
Assisting the Director of Faculty Development in the organization of events, program administration, and website maintenance.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree; Doctorate preferred.
Educational Development Experience: 2 or more years of faculty development experience with faculty, postdocs, and/or graduate students (e.g., consultations on pedagogy, instructional workshops), preferably at an established, college-level center for teaching and learning. Competitive candidates will have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: course/curriculum design, faculty learning communities, online learning, digital tools, STEM education, high impact practices, program assessment, qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
Teaching Experience: One year of experience as an instructor, or two years of experience as a graduate teaching assistant, in online and in-person formats.
Skills:
excellence in the ability to consult with faculty across disciplines and teaching contexts.
excellence in development and delivery of teaching sessions and workshops for both in-person and online modalities;
facility with media creation tools and design for creating digital resources and assignments.
strong oral and written communication skills (including maintaining confidentiality);
knowledge of assessment and active learning best practices in higher education.
high comfort level with how to teach online and with technology tools including learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
sensitivity to teaching and learning needs at a research university.
experience in applying research to curricular innovations and analyzing teaching challenges using qualitative and quantitative data;
ability to juggle multiple assignments and provide high quality, timely support.
conversant with the literature on educational development, the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and learning science research.
