Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Database Administrator for Institutional Planning and Operations- Information Technology (IP&O-IT). The position will join IP&O IT’s Application Development team to provide Oracle and SQL Server database administration for the division’s multiple systems. Database administration tasks include but are not limited to database design, installation, upgrades/patching, configuration, monitoring, real-time integrations, backup/recovery, replication, performance tuning, security, and troubleshooting.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assist developers and other IT staff with dev/test/production deployments, ad-hoc queries, and SQL tuning.
Server and application administration will be required to support DBA tasks.
Servers are running in VMware vSphere and include both Linux and Windows operating systems.
Write scripts and stored procedures using PL/SQL, T-SQL, Linux BASH, and Windows PowerShell.
Use tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and RMAN, Quest Toad, SQL Server Management Studio, SolarWinds, Splunk, Veeam Backup and Recovery, and VMware vCenter.
Work with various groups internal and external to IP&O, including with managers, developers, users, and vendors.
Prepares documentation for users and other technical staff. The DBA is expected to work under limited supervision.
Research and implement emerging database trends, tools, and technologies to keep data solutions current.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 4 years of database management with Oracle and/or SQL Server.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have knowledge of current versions of Windows and Linux/Unix server operating systems.
Must be fluent in SQL, T-SQL/PL-SQL, and operating system scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
Must have experience installing, configuring, and performing backup/recovery of Oracle and/or SQL Server.
Candidate must pass an FBI background check as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Database certifications for current versions of Oracle and/or SQL Server are preferred.
Experience with advanced tools such as Quest TOAD, SolarWinds, and Splunk are preferred.
Virtualization (VMware vSphere 7) experience preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Management software that will be used include are Quest TOAD, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Recovery Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, SolarWinds, Splunk, Veeam Backup and Recovery, and VMware vCenter.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The position maintains critical infrastructure services available 24×7; the incumbent would be required to be on-call for problems to be resolved quickly.
At times, the incumbent may need to work outside of normal work hours to minimize server maintenance downtime.
