Job Description

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the laboratory of Professor Jinsong Zhu in the Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech. The lab uses state-of-the-art functional genomics approaches to investigate the molecular regulation of mosquito reproduction. The successful candidate will elucidate signal transduction pathways that govern reproduction in female mosquitoes and investigate chromatin state transitions associated with hormonal signaling. The postdoctoral scientist will have the opportunity to develop related research projects as long as they overlap with the interests of the lab. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

The postdoctoral associate will conduct research on the two projects listed, including mentoring/training graduate and undergraduate students. Applicants are expected to work independently, assist in project design and data analysis, author manuscripts for peer review, and present at national/international conferences.

Job Responsibilities Include: Performing experiments to explore the molecular regulation of mosquito reproduction and completing data analysis. Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Preparation and revision of manuscripts and grant applications. Participation in lab meetings.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a recent Ph.D. in life sciences awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of the appointment with a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining. Prior expertise in at least some of the following areas is essential: molecular biology, entomology, microbiology, and genetics. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding communication skills via a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following areas is highly desirable: Data analysis of high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing results, RNAi, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing.
