Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
Our laboratory studies the genetics of metabolic disease. We exploit natural genetic variation present within different mouse strains to link metabolic dysregulation with genes. Different mouse strains respond differently to diets high in fat and carbohydrates, similarly to humans. To understand the basis of this difference in diet responsiveness, We assess physiological traits (e.g. body weight, food intake), metabolites in serum, metabolic flux as measured with stable isotopes, and gene expression in key metabolic tissues as assessed from RNA sequencing. We subject these different sources of phenotype data to genetic mapping wherein we look for strong associations of phenotypes with genotype; single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The overall goal of our studies is to discover genes that drive these phenotypes.

We are looking for a person who is proficient in statistics (e.g. correlation, ANOVA, unsupervised clustering, regression and principal component analyses) and competent in writing and implementing R code, the program we use for genetic association mapping. The ideal candidate would also be capable of developing an organizational structure for data files that can be continuously updated and integrate within a data analysis pipeline. The ability to develop web-based browsers for the data, and visualization tools (e.g. Shiny apps) is highly desirable.

We aim to find someone who is comfortable in a highly collaborative environment, has good inter-personal skills, and genuinely enjoys working with other people and teaching students how to analyze data.
