 Provide support for Bursar Services staff.

  • Refund checks: Print, stuff, and mail student and parent refund checks daily at the beginning of semesters and weekly thereafter. Send check information to the State via Positive Pay up to twice daily.
  • Stale-dated check process: Research where the funds originated. Contact the payee via phone and email. Reissue the payment either by placing the funds on deposit or applying to the student’s bursar account. Document reissuance by adding a comment in Banner.
  • Mail: Collect mail including return refund checks.
  • Scanning: Scan check stubs, stop payment forms, affidavits, and treasury return items.
  • Iadvise check-ins: Meet with students who need help with refund checks – stop payments, affidavits, reissuance, etc.
  • Inventory: Keep track of the inventory of checks and envelopes. Notify office manager when an order needs to be placed.
  • Accounting email: Respond to emails pertaining to refund checks.
  • Unclaimed property process: Run unclaimed property reports in Cognos. Contact the payee via phone, email, and letters. Document contact in Banner and spreadsheet in order to submit to the State. Reissue funds when a new address is received. Send funds that have been unclaimed for five years to the State. Work with students and parents to obtain funds after being sent to the State.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education:  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.   

  •  24 months financial budgeting or accounting experience
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience
 
Skills: 
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff
  • Able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively
  • Ability to produce reports and complete work within deadlines
  • Strong initiative to solve problems in a timely manner

Advertised Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, and engage in reptitive motions.  Standard office environment. 

Department Preferences

  • Experience with higher education and University processes. 
  • Experience using Banner.
