Providence College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Art and Art History at the assistant professor level, beginning August 1, 2023. We seek an interdisciplinary teacher-scholar who specializes in the chronological era from c.1800 to the present. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in Modern and Contemporary Art, participation in a team-taught Survey, advanced undergraduate seminars, and Methods and Senior Thesis courses on a rotating basis. We welcome research and courses that center intersectional approaches to Modern and Contemporary art and media and also may be cross-listed with Women’s and Gender Studies, Black Studies, American Studies, Global Studies, Latin American and Latinx Studies, Asian Studies, and other departments such as Theater, Dance, and Film; English; Political Science, etc, depending on the expertise and interests of the person hired. Cooperation and coordination with our thriving PC Galleries’ exhibitions and programming is also desired. Collegial interaction and engagement with students in our Studio Art program is also important to the position.

Education and Experience Required
Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Ph.D. from an accredited institution and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative teaching, use of technology, interdisciplinary art historical scholarship, and demonstrated broad methodological interests within the field(s) of expertise.
