Job Description:
Nassau Community College invites applications for a temporary, full-time position in the Biology Department. The position begins January 24, 2023. Weekly duties include 15 contact hours of teaching, 3 office hours, and 5 hours of departmental and/or college service. The successful candidate will teach introductory biology courses for majors, and must be qualified to teach microbiology, and one of the following specialties: field biology, anatomy, physiology, histology, or marine science.


Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Initial Appointment (BIO 101 and BIO102):

a. A master's degree in a biological science, earned at an accredited college/university AND

b. A minimum of one semester of college teaching experience in a biological science. In lieu of one semester of college teaching experience, published research in a biological science in a peer-reviewed journal will be considered.

Following specific courses have additional requirements:

1. Biology 109: a. Qualifications for initial appointment, AND b. One semester college teaching experience in a course in majors-level introductory cell and molecular biology with laboratory components. In lieu of one semester of college teaching experience in a course in majors-level introductory cell and molecular biology with laboratory components, published research in cell and molecular biology in a peer- reviewed journal will be considered.

2. Biology 110 - a. Qualifications for initial appointment, AND b. One semester college teaching experience in a course in majors-level introductory organismal biology, ecology and evolution with laboratory components. In lieu of one semester of college teaching experience, published research in organismal biology, ecology and evolution in a peer-reviewed journal will be considered.

3. Biology 103, 104, 115, 116, 118, 120, 124, 125, 130, 131, 162, 65, 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 209, 210, 211, 212, 214, 215, 216, 219, 221, 222, 231 - a. Qualifications for initial appointment, AND b. Two graduate-level courses in the specific specialty, AND c. One semester college teaching in specific specialty with laboratory components.

4. Biology 119, 121, 131, 226, 230 - a. Qualifications for initial appointment, AND b. Two graduate-level courses in specific specialty, AND c. One semester college-level teaching in specific specialty.
