Summary

The KLemon Lab at Baylor College of Medicine is hiring a Research Technician III. Our long-term goal is to identify bacterial strains and compounds that will be leads for new approaches to prevent and treat infections due to nasal bacterial pathobionts and respiratory viruses. To achieve this, we are elucidating the molecular mechanisms of interspecies interactions in the human nasal microbiome. Research Technicians in the KLemon Lab perform a variety of experimental techniques and have multiple opportunities for mentored on-the-job skill building. Job Duties

• Perform experiments using bacterial cultivation, human nasal organoids, molecular biology and genetic engineering. There might also be the need to perform experiments using bioinformatics, bioassay-guided fractionation, and basic organic extraction.
• Maintain, demonstrate and ensure compliance with standard biosafety and laboratory regulations. 
• Participate in lab meetings and read applicable literature.
• Prepare figures and assist in writing related to experiments performed.
• Maintain general lab environment, including, but not limited to, equipment maintenance and repairs, organization and cleanliness of the lab. 
• Assist with lab supplies and inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a basic science or equivalent education, preferably in microbiology, microbial ecology, biology, or chemical biology. 
• The equivalent of at least 1 year of lab research experience with bacteria. (Lab courses alone are insufficient to meet this requirement.) 
• Experience in bacterial cultivation, excellent aseptic technique and general skills common to a microbiology lab. 
• Experience working in R and performing bioinformatic analysis is a plus.
• Good analytical and computer skills. Experience with basic command line is a must, and a working knowledge of R with experience performing bioinformatic analysis is a definite plus. 
• Strong documentation and organizational skills with the ability to keep accurate records of all work performed.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new bench research techniques with guidance and mentoring.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic, including ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, use good judgment and complete duties.
