Highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD/PhD in relevant area are encouraged to apply. This training position, under the direct supervision of a Cleveland Clinic Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through the Lerner Research Institute. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 5 years.

A post-doctoral position in experimental and computational sciences is available in the Speranza Lab at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute’s Florida Research and Innovation Center. The lab works to understand how barrier tissue sites function to stop the further dissemination of emerging RNA viruses. The lab uses cutting edge technologies in single-cell sequencing and highly multiplex immunohistochemistry combined with new computational tools to build models of how complex tissues respond and control virus replication. 

Ideal candidates will have a background in immunology, virology, or computational biology and a willingness to work in high containment laboratory settings.

Lab Research Topics:

  • Tissue immunology to viral infection
  • Emerging RNA viruses
  • High-plex immunohistochemistry for spatial proteomics
  • Computational Biology
  • Parsing host-pathogen interactions at the meso scale

Job Responsibilities:

  • Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation
  • Tissue imaging using confocol microscopy
  • Computational analysis of single-cell RNA data and/or spatial protein or RNA data
  • Virus progation, inoculations, titering, and isolation

Education:

  • PhD or MD/PhD required
  • MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD

Languages:

  • English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in a research or academic setting.  Graduate student experience meets this requirement.
  • Scientific writing experience

Additional Preferred Qualities:

  • Experience in BSL-3 environment is beneficial but not required
  • Previous programing experience in R or python
  • Expertise in working with animals, and basic virology techniques
  • Good presentation and writing skills
  • Works well in a collaborative environment
