The newly reimagined University of Oklahoma Career Center is embarking on an exciting period of growth and change. With the implementation of the industry-focused Career Communities model and the expansion of the Career Center staff, the Career Center can better meet the evolving needs of students across all disciplines and majors. The Career Communities model will empower the Career Center to facilitate tailored experiential learning opportunities as part of the students college experience as well as source Career Community-specific employment opportunities for students upon graduation.

The Assistant Director, Events & Outreach is a member of the Employer Relations team and is responsible for the following:

Plan, schedule, and oversee Career Center-sponsored career fairs and events

    • Coordinate with Career Center leadership and college-level contacts to create annual calendar of career fairs
    • Secure event space bookings for career fairs
    • Meet with venue staff to plan event logistics
    • Oversee the ordering process for large-scale career fair catering
    • Make staff assignments for career fair days and manage on-site operations during the events
    • Manage inventory of career fair supplies
    • Facilitate next-day interviews after career fairs
    • Work with the Marketing Coordinator to facilitate Corporate Partner and sponsor branding at events
    • Coordinate with the Events Coordinator as they manage all logistical aspects leading up to each event
    • Approve and facilitate employer information sessions, networking events, etc. that are requested through Handshake (the Career Center CRM)

New Event Creation (Campus Outreach)

    • In conjunction with the Events Coordinator, develop new employer engagement opportunities by creating events that are targeted towards specific Career Communities
    • Collaborate with Career Center Advisers to gain insight on the needs of the student populations they serve, to guide the creation of tailored events and employer engagement opportunities for the six Career Communities
    • Develop new events with an emphasis on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to help employers engage with campus affinity groups
    • Coordinate campus outreach efforts with the Events Coordinator
    • Identify & recruit employers from the Career Center company database to attend targeted events
    • Initiate, coordinate, and implement networking events to facilitate interaction of students and        employers

Employer Development

    • Source new employers to hire OU students and alumni for full-time and internship employment
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND: 

  • 24 months experience in event planning and coordination, outreach or public relations

Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months experience.

Skills:

  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information    
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions     
  • Customer service skills     
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)     
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Experience with computer graphic design a plus

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date</p>

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience working in Higher Education.
  • Experience managing/coordinating large events (500+ participants)
