Position Description

Westminster Conservatory, the community music school of Rider University invites applications for the Director of Westminster Conservatory. Reporting to the Vice President of Facilities & University Operations, this individual will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the Conservatory and acting as a liaison between the University and the Conservatory under the umbrella of Auxiliary Services to facilitate the effective and efficient interaction of all entities. The successful candidate will develop and maintain programs that are in demand for the community, explore off-campus as well as international markets and manage costs to support these programs efficiently. The Director will manage all summer programs within the arts area and oversee other internal camps and conferences as needed.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in Arts Administration
  • Experience in generating operating revenue a not-for-profit setting
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of music including trends in music education and knowledge of music educators
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of budgets and the budgeting processes
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of constituents
  • Demonstrated understanding of private and group instruction and what is needed in an instructor in a Community Music School setting

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s degree
  • 5-7 years of experience in managing a not-for-profit arts based organization
