The Department of Performing Arts at Rider University announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Acting for the BFA in Acting program at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2023. We seek an artist-teacher who will join our Performing Arts Department faculty and technical staff.

Overview:
● Primary expertise in Acting Styles, Voice and/or Movement
● Evidence of course, production, or curricular design to include Acting Styles for all media.
● Experience as a stage director at collegiate and/or professional level
● Recruit and promote the B.F.A. degree in Acting

All Rider University faculty are expected to maintain an appropriate and active scholarly and/or creative agenda and to participate effectively in advising, recruiting, committee work, and other activities that support our teaching and learning community.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses the School of Communication, Media, and Performing Arts (CMPA). The BFA program in Acting focuses on conservatory training in all performing media. The College of Arts and Sciences values diversity among its faculty and remains committed to building a culturally competent and diverse intellectual and artistic community. The School collaborates with other departments and colleges of Rider University in support of the curriculum, performances, and productions.

Position Requirements

Qualifications – the successful candidate will
  • hold a terminal degree in Acting, Directing, or a Bachelor’s Degree with extensive professional experience in the field.
  • have background experience with acting for the Camera
  • have demonstrated ability to successfully direct in an academic environment
  • have the ability to teach acting courses focused on voice and body work
  • have experience in diverse theater and performance history, repertoire, and pedagogy
  • demonstrate success in teaching and guiding students who increasingly come from a diverse personal, educational, artistic, and socio-economic background
  • provide evidence of success promoting diversity and equity in theatre education and performance
  • provide evidence of successfully recruiting students for a Theatre program
  • have ability to teach upper-level courses in styles and advanced acting techniques.
  • have ability to bring to campus professionals in the field

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • ability to teach in other areas of the curriculum (auditioning, directing, scene study devised theatre)
  • collegiate and/or directing experience
  • collegiate teaching experience
  • ability to maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, both within and outside the department
  • demonstrated success in student recruitment and development
  • membership in professional unions such as AEA, SDC, SAG-AFTRA or DGA
