Job Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Academics (ADA) will have responsibility for oversight and leadership of the academic and instructional programs within the new College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation (HEST), established in 2021 to serve students, faculty, and staff whose efforts are aimed at improving individual, societal, and policy outcomes. A critical component of this role will be supporting the Dean’s vision of co-building One College under One Umbrella by embedding the College’s commitment to social justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity into programing and initiatives. The ADA will help facilitate the development of a united college identity and establish new college policies, processes, and procedures to support the academic mission. This individual will provide a vision and strategy in alignment with the college and university strategic plan to support faculty success and grow enrollment while ensuring the success of a highly diverse student body. The ADR promotes academic excellence, fosters interdisciplinary efforts (e.g., interprofessional education), and identifies the appropriate infrastructure for growth and innovation.

The College of HEST was formed by combining the previous College of Education and College of Health and Social Services, as well as the Department of Sociology from the College of Arts and Sciences.

The current academic units include:

· Department of Communication Disorders
· Department of Counseling & Educational Psychology
· Department of Kinesiology
· School of Nursing
· Department of Public Health Sciences
· School of Social Work
· Department of Sociology
· School of Teacher Preparation, Administration & Leadership

This is a 12-month administrative position; however, the individual will keep their faculty appointment in their home department and will have the opportunity to pursue their teaching and/or research agenda.

Duties

· Provide leadership for and oversee the administration of the academic mission of the college in accordance with established guidelines, university policies, and/or regulatory bodies

· Provide leadership for the development of new standard practices and procedures related to the college’s academic mission

· Coordinate and oversee student recruitment, success, and retention efforts (i.e., Aggie Experience, new student orientation, HEST student events, etc.)

· Ensure compliance with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) rules and federal regulations including FERPA, ADA, and Title IX

· Serve as liaison between the college and the university administration, community partners, state legislature, and other stakeholders

· Coordinate updates of the university general catalog, scheduling of courses, establishment of new degrees and programs, program changes, etc.

· Collaborate with the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity and HEST Diversity Committee on college-wide social justice initiatives

· Assist the Dean with strategic and long-range planning, recruitment of faculty, fundraising, and other college-wide initiatives

· Monitor compliance of college programs with accreditation standards and support programs through the accreditation process

· Serve as the HEST HLC liaison and coordinate the college’s contributions to the HLC accreditation process

· Facilitate program growth and development by assisting departments in marketing and establishing new degree programs, concentrations, minors, etc.

· Serve as the college’s liaison to university’s Office of Government Relations and coordinates the college’s responses during the state legislative session

· Coordinate college academic reports to university administration, as well as state and federal agencies

· Coordinate the process for undergraduate student grievances and appeals at the college level

· Inform departments about student success outcomes including enrollment trends, retention rates, graduation rates, and other academic outcomes

· Oversee scholarship committees and processes at the college

· Coordinate college-wide promotion and tenure activities

· Supervise professional/technical/support staff and student workers

· Serve on the NMSU Associate Deans Academic Council

· Perform duties as assigned by the Dean

Classification Summary
This position reports directly to the Dean and has as primary responsibilities: 1) to help build the research agendas of faculty, professional staff, departments and the college; 2) to assist in securing grant funding and developing grant proposals in a timely manner; 3) to build research collaborations and partnerships within departments and the college and with other colleges, universities, research labs, and other institutions; 4) to coordinate outreach initiatives and partnerships for the college and provide leadership for external activities that involve schools, communities, businesses and agencies.
