Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is embarking on an exciting mission of establishing state of the art computational, data and informatics infrastructure for supporting cutting edge biomedical research and innovation to care. We are seeking a Software Engineer to work with our Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) system to streamline integration with other systems; to design, create and update new external modules; and to implement new processes to increase performance. Under the direction of the Infrastructure and Data Commons Manager in the SMPH, the incumbent will work independently and with other members of the REDCap team to develop innovative applications and integrations.
The Clinical and Health Informatics Institute (CHI2) includes team members from the University of Wisconsin SMPH, Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) who work closely together to achieve CHI2 objectives. The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision. Strong people and communication skills are required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum one year of professional experience developing against Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) (e.g., REST)
- Minimum one year of professional programming experience with PHP
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred:
- Health Level 7 (HL7) and FHIR experience
- Healthcare or clinical research experience
- Public cloud (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform) experience
- Experience with Agile or Scrum methodology and tools
- Experience with Git version control system
- Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CICD) pipelines
- Experience with container and container orchestration solutions like Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with additional modern programming languages (Python, Java, Ruby, etc)
Additional considerations for a Software Engineer/Developer III:
- 3 years of professional development experience in a modern programming language (Python, Java, Ruby, Javascript, PHP)
- Experience in a lead Software Engineer role
- Knowledge of test plan design and architectural design
