This position is within the OU IT Endpoint Lifecycle Management (ELM) Team within the IT Services Team.  The ELM Team is responsible for determining campus endpoint standards along with procuring, warehousing, repairing and retiring computing assets for the entire OU system.  The Asset Retirement Specialist will participate in all areas of the team but focus mostly on university asset end of useful life.

The Asset Retirement Specialist will monitor all computing assets to determine when the end of their lifecycle is approaching, arrange for collection of the assets and schedule timely pickups by asset disposal vendors to ensure University data is not compromised and eventually destroyed.  

Duties: 

  • Responsible for defining and analyzing current system problems to find any flaws or inefficiencies
  • Creates solutions to resolve all issues and ensures long‐term effectiveness and discusses with management
  • Evaluates current IT systems, including hardware, software, and network features
  • Communicates with management and employees to determine system requirements
  • Plans new systems that address any issues with the current systems
  • Prepares cost‐benefit analysis reports for all proposed upgrades
  • Collaborates with the IT team to implement a plan
  • Tests the new systems to validate it is working as expected
  • Resolves issues and ensures
  • solutions are viable and consistent
  • Creates training processes and documentation to teach others how to use new systems
  • Conducts reviews of the system and generates reports on efficiencies and improvement areas
  • Keeps up to date with the latest developments in information systems
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
  • Monitor the asset management system to forecast future asset retirements
  • Work with all department of the University system to arrange for proactive pickup and disposal of assets at the end of their useful life
  • Work with IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) vendors to coordinate their services
  • Monitor ITAD invoicing and levels of performance
  • Become familiar with industry data sanitization methods
  • Document all end of life assets to ensure they are removed from all appropriate systems
  • Establish documentation and workflows that will safeguard University electronic data
  • Assist in audit requests
  • Perform other ELM duties essential to the success of the team:  Imaging, receiving, delivery, pickup etc.
 

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree

12 months experience as a Systems Analyst or in a similar position

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months related experience
