Job Description

Summary

The Research Administration Associate monitors research projects conducted by BCM investigators at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, MEDVAMC, and the associated indirect costs generated by these grants.

Job Duties

  • Monitor MEDVAMC/BCM Indirect account to ensure indirects are captured and prepare financial reports on deposits and expenses
  • Obtain BCM e-mail accounts for MEDVAMC employees that require access to BRAIN
  • Monitor CCM expenses to ensure costs are moved on and off account as grants begin and end
  • Prepare a check request to move funds from BCM to the HVAREF
  • Issue a memo to the Grants & Contracts office for funds that require deposit to the BCM HSR&D account
  • Work with the Grants and Contracts office to resolve issues with new accounts so that credit is given to the correct grant/PI
  • Work with BCM administrators and the Grants and Contracts office to resolve issues on projects that require the VAMC as a performance site
  • Monitor CCM costs to adjust for costs
  • Access ESP-2 to monitor VAMC projects and PIs
  • Work with the Grants and contracts office to identify projects that appear in the financial reports and issue transfer memos for movement between the VA indirect account and the BCM HSR&D Center
  • Issue check request to the accounting office for funds moved to the HVAREF

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial reporting, research or administrative coordination
  • Position requires the ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Problem solving and resolution is often needed when discussing grant funding with investigators and their administrators.
