Summary

The Dere lab (https://www.bcm.edu/research/faculty-labs/ruhee-dere-lab) is looking for individuals with a background in biochemistry and cellular biology to contribute to ongoing projects investigating the non-canonical role for chromatin modifiers on the cytoskeleton. The Staff Scientist will establish novel biochemical assays to study protein-protein interactions and the ensuing dynamic and structural changes in protein conformations resulting from the interactions per se or the regulatory post-translational modifications that might occur on these proteins. This project is ideal for individuals who will lead projects in the laboratory without the responsibilities of running the lab or writing grants.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the evaluation, selection and application of advanced laboratory techniques.
  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Troubleshoots and provides solutions to improve outcomes and experiment design.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigator.
  • Trains and supervises less experienced research staff.
  • Defines problems and possible solutions.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other Biomedical Sciences.
  • Evidence of scientific writing is a plus.
