Located on the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) campus, The Min H. Kao Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department continues to grow, with 30 percent faculty growth over the last decade and undergraduate enrollment growing to more than 900 students in 2022. This is an exciting and diverse department with varied research interests, including artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, embedded systems, electronics, high performance computing, power and energy, visualization and image processing, and wireless and sensor networks. Our research expenditures per tenure track faculty member exceed those of our aspirational peers, meaning the department is among the most productive in the country. The research thrusts cover several critical areas including the power grid, its security, and new ways of mitigating outages; high-performance, cloud, and edge computing; data systems and cybersecurity; and AI, machine learning, and the Internet of Things.

Primary/Functional Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

Support an infrastructure of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server products including
System and service installation
Configuration management
System security planning and implementation
Hire, train, supervise, and mentor IT helpdesk employees
Provide second-tier escalation support for help desk requests
Respond to advanced technical issues with minimal supervision
Create and update the scope of internal and customer-facing IT documentation
Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (such as computer science or information technology) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Two or more years of experience in Linux and Windows system administration such as:
Skills in configuring hypervisor technologies (e.g. VMWare, KVM, HyperV)
Skills in configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Microsoft InTune
Knowledge of one or more scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Python, PowerShell)
Knowledge of computer security principles and experience securing systems in a hostile environment including system monitoring and incidence response.
Ability to motivate student and full-time employees
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Desired/Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Previous technical support experience in an academic environment
Advanced knowledge of computer operating system and computer science concepts such as:
Kernels, compilers, and shared libraries
High-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Rust
Storage technologies (e.g. RAID, iSCSI)
Data Structures and algorithms
Supervisory experience
College and Campus Resources
