University Libraries seeks to recruit an Operations and Public Spaces Supervisor.The special collections located on the 5th floor of Bizzell Memorial Library include the History of Science Collections, John and Mary Nichols Rare Books, Bass Business History Collection, and Bizzell Bible Collection. This position oversees day-to-day operations of the 5th floor Special Collections and public service spaces. Operational functions back-of-the-house include coordination of personnel, payroll, supply processes, maintenance of statistics, filing systems, and annual reporting. This position helps manage the graduate research assistant and directly supervises numerous student library assistants. This position manages processing of books and serials, serves as the main contact point for library technology, and supervises Sooner Express and Interlibrary Loan services. As public spaces supervisor, this position oversees activities in 5th floor public spaces including the paging and use of research materials in the Reading Room and the staffing of help desks in the Foyer. This position may be involved as appropriate in other 5th floor activities including exhibits, outreach events, and archives.

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED, AND:

  • 24 months office, clerical, or administrative experience

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively via email and telephone with customers and resolve issues and problems in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a respectful, equitable and inclusive way.
  • Demonstrated technology proficiency and capabilities working with personal computers and software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Apple Mac OS.
  • Ability to work both independently and coordinate with appropriate personnel as required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience building and sustaining effective interpersonal relationships contributing to a positive and professional working environment.
  • Ability to perform a number of different types of tasks through a given work day, ranging from handling of urgent requests to working on long term projects.
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented tasks, analyze needs and develop action plans, and coordinate with appropriate personnel as required.
  • Critical thinking skills, including an aptitude to research, collect, and analyze data and prepare reports or responses to inquiries.

  • Regular pressure to meet productivity standards; frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods; may be required to lift, bend, stoop and carry; ability to engage in repetitive motions; grasp objects with fingers or hands; communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others.

Department Preferences:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in any subject area.
  • Advanced writing and editing skills.
  • Technological experience and advanced software skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Reading knowledge of French, German, Latin, or other non-English language.
  • Experience working with rare materials in a special collections environment.
