Museum Security Guard

Function: Under the direction of the FJJMA Security Supervisors responsible for the security of the museum's art collection, the museum's facility, and its use. The ability to exercise some discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment with a welcoming and friendly attitude. Flexible schedule with ten to fifteen hours per week, including Sundays. 

Representative Duties:

  • Responsible for safeguarding the museum’s world-renowned art collection and the facility in-which it is on display
  • Security guards must be able to provide museum visitors with accurate information pertaining to the museum facility with an attitude of courtesy and professionalism. As public-interacting team members, security personnel are expected to contribute to the welcoming and accommodating atmosphere the museum fosters to its guests.
  • Security guards must ensure guests follow safety guidelines required for the protection of the art, museum building, but also for staff and visitors. • Under the direction of Security Supervisors, aid museum staff members on as-needed occasions that may affect the museum’s collection or facility.
  • Security guards must possess a team-oriented attitude and enjoy working with museum staff and visitors on a daily occurrence. • Security guards will be expected to have the flexibility to work weekends, nights, and some holidays on occasion.
  • Security guards must have knowledge of two-way radio usage and proper radio etiquette.
  • Security guards must possess the ability to assist as-needed with the set up and take down of equipment for museum functions, special events, and other programs within the museum. This includes under the direction of Security Supervisors to assist staff on a needed basis with mailings, front desk assistance, deliveries, and moving heavy objects and crates.

 

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED.

Skills:

  • Ability to properly broadcast and receive information using a two-way radio
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives
  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Excellent public relation skills
  • Willingness to wear and maintain uniforms and to comply to departmental grooming standards
  • Excellent observational skills

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions including movements of the hands, wrists or fingers, move, touch including finger dexterity, communicate, hear including receiving detailed information orally or making fine discriminations in sound and see including color, depth perception or clarity.
  • Must be able to move and stand for several hours at a time

Departmental Preferences:

  • Art or museum experience
  • Security experience in a public institution

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
