Responsibilities*
Department Leadership: Work with CDA to design, develop, and manage administrative operations of the department; direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of new processes; ensure compliance with all appropriate policies and procedures; ability to identify misconduct and noncompliance; serve as first line dept compliance/management by monitoring budgets, spending, and by providing guidance and counsel for the stewardship of all funds; manage creation of annual dept budget; partner with Med School finance to coordinate funds transfer of commitments.

Research Administration Management: responsible for the management of the research administration process (eg:workflow, communication, record keeping, etc.), overseeing multiple teams in pre- and post-award research grant administration and basic science research administration; prepare, advise on, and, manage preparation of major program or research proposals; develop research administration policies and procedures for the dept; primary eRPM approver for PAFs, UFAs, AARs, and ACRs.

Supervisory: Support all administrative supervisory aspects including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, orienting, developing, coaching, disciplining, etc.

Procurement Management: develop purchasing policies and procedures for department and research lab operations; supervise procurement specialist.

Work closely with departments Student Services Coordinator to verify all Ph.D funding and benefits are charged correctly and ontime; partner with Grad Studies to develop policies and procedures related to PhD management.

Department Recharges: Oversee and manage 3 department recharges. Reconcile accounts, handle monthly billings, and annual renewals.

Required Qualifications*
 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field.

5 years functional and/or direct supervisory experience.

 7+ years research administration experience.

 Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

 Advanced knowledge using Business Objects to create ad-hoc reports.

 Successful completion of UM Foundations of Leadership course.

 Advanced knowledge of the deadline policy and purpose for Sponsors, ORSP, and units and understanding of how they relate.

 Experience managing and using the application suite of Online Purchasing System (OPS), Graduate Student Funding and Travel and Expense.

 Understanding of University procurement policies and procedures.

 Knowledge of Ph.D student funding types and creation of Financial Aid Types (FAIT).
