Reporting to the Director of the Intercultural Center, the Assistant Director enhances the education of students through co-curricular programs, services, and resources that foster a strong sense of diversity, inclusion, and social justice. The Assistant Director offers support and guidance to Saint Mary's diverse student population, especially those from historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized groups. The Assistant Director builds relationships with students, staff, and faculty to support and advocate for the institutional goal of inclusive excellence.

1. Student Advising, Supervision, & Support: (A) Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Social Justice Advocate (SJA) student leaders, the programming arm of the Intercultural Center that is responsible for weekly community dialogue programs as well as the logistics behind managing the office space and supporting large campus-wide cultural programming such as the Cultural Graduate Celebrations. (B) Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the Graphic Designer (GD) student leader, one of three prime positions responsible for the publicity and marketing of IC related programs and events. (C) Directly advise student executive teams for three Cultural Nights. (D) Assist the Director in co-facilitating the Annual Diversity Retreat for diversity student organization representatives, cultural night exec team representatives and all IC student staff. (E) Advise students who may experience academic difficulty, personal issues, or become the target of a hate crime/bias-motivated incident.

2. Programming: (A) Develop and coordinate year-long diversity programming and co-curriculum that addresses the intersectionality of identity with particular attention paid to historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized groups. This includes monthly community circle dialogues in both the center as well as in first year residential halls, occasional educational IC workshops, annual Cultural Nights, and annual Cultural Graduate Celebrations. (B) Serve as a GUIDE facilitator for faculty, staff and administration. (C) Stay current on trends and best practices in higher education regarding inclusive excellence.

3. Administrative Duties: (A) Oversee the daily operations of Delphine, a two-story building that includes both office and programming space. Daily operations include but are not limited to scheduling reservations, enforcing usage policies, submitting work orders, and balancing the separate needs of the office and programming space. (B) Attend to the needs of people who call, e-mail, and visit the Intercultural Center. (C) Monitor, restock, and organize an inventory of supplies needed for programs and daily office operations. (D) Maintain a student computer lab. (E) Develop and manage a student library (physical and/or online) of resources regarding diversity and social justice. (F) Execute all paperwork related to Intercultural Center programs and daily operations, such as contracts, liability waivers, check requests, purchase orders, etc.

4. Budget Maintenance: (A) Monitor and reconcile several budget(s) of the Intercultural Center. (B) Oversee the budget(s) for three Cultural Nights. (C) Execute all related financial paperwork, such as contracts, check requests, expense reports, purchase orders, etc.

5. Marketing: (A) Monitor and regularly update the department website, including online registration for programs. (B) Manage, reproduce, and distribute publicity for Intercultural Center programs and services, both in print and online. (C) Design, order, and restock all promotional literature and items. (D) Collaborate with other campus departments to co-sponsor programs.

6. Assessment: (A) Assist the Director in establishing learning outcomes for all diversity programs. (B) Develop and implement various methods of measuring the effectiveness of diversity programs. (C) Track, analyze, and report assessment findings for the Intercultural Center's Annual Report. (D) Continuously modify/improve diversity programming based on assessment findings.

Experience and Qualifications

REQUIRED: BA / BS
PREFERRED: Master's degree, preferably in sociology, ethnic studies, education, or a related field.
Experience:
A minimum of two years experience in diversity programming and providing support services to historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized students, specifically in an advising role.

Skills/Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills in facilitating and maintaining collaborative relationships with campus constituents.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and facilitating difficult dialogues around difference. (Preferred: Experience with intergroup dialogue training and development of IGD curriculum)
• Bilingual skills highly desired, specifically Spanish.
• Outstanding initiative, organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects / deadlines, attention to detail and team player mentality.
• Proficiency with Windows operating systems, including Microsoft Office, email, and internet usage. Familiarity with graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, a plus.
• Understanding of and commitment to the College's mission and Catholic, Lasallian, and liberal arts traditions.
