Position Summary:
Associate Professor/ Professor of Forensic Science. The Forensic Science Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Bowling Green State University is seeking to fill an Associate Professor/Professor position in Forensic Science. The successful candidate will have forensic science bench experience. This is full-time, tenure-track, academic year position.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Teach a variety of courses effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level in forensic science and related fields (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Pharmacology)
- Supervise master’s student research; advise undergraduate students
- Actively seek and obtain external funding to sustain research
- Engage students in research that leads to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in service at the Program, College, and University level.



Minimum Qualifications & Salary:
- Doctoral degree in a field related to forensic science (e.g., biology, chemistry, toxicology, pharmacology).
- Demonstrated record of research productivity and external funding in forensic science (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals appropriate for the field of research, external funding to support research), demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching awards, positive teaching evaluations), and demonstrated record of service that meet the appropriate criteria and standards for rank, as stated in the Department of Chemistry’s tenure and promotion policy (see https://www.bgsu.edu/content/dam/BGSU/provost/faculty-affairs/documents/rtp-policies/approved-CBA-2-rtp-chem.pdf)

Preferred Qualification
- Experience as an expert witness in legal proceedings

The forensic science program at BGSU is unique in that there is an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) crime laboratory and investigation facility on the BGSU campus, as well as a partnership between BCI and BGSU through the Center for the Future of Forensic Science. This partnership enables BGSU to create and provide the precise curricula and hands-on experience that today’s forensic science and criminal investigation employers expect of prospective job candidates. In fact, BCI forensic scientists were consulted in the development of the academic degree programs and helped identify the major’s Ability Based Outcomes (those abilities considered essential for graduates entering the profession).

The Center for the Future of Forensic Science supports research leading to the development of new methods for processing and analyzing evidence, refining our understanding of the neurochemistry and toxicities associated with substances of abuse and so much more. These efforts in teaching and research place the State of Ohio at the forefront of forensic science. The Center is dedicated to assisting BGSU and BCI in obtaining its mission to foster innovative forensic scientific research and to create training opportunities for forensic science professionals and students in forensic science-related fields.
