Position Summary:

University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites qualified applications for an Assistant Professor of Microbiology opportunity, a tenure track position in the Department of Biology.

Highly motivated, collegial individuals with a passion for undergraduate education are encouraged to apply. Anticipated start date of August 2023.


Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate lecture and lab biology courses, including core courses of the biology major, microbiology, and advanced courses dependent on the candidate’s expertise and department needs
Teach students standard and advanced methods in microbiology in the laboratory setting.
Effectively aid and advise students interested in healthcare careers by drawing meaningful connections between microbiology and its application to medicine and public health.
Participate in scholarly activities and remain professionally active in the scientific community
Provide academic advising to biology majors
Become active in department, college, and university service
What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required Qualifications

Doctorate or terminal degree in microbiology or closely related field within the field of biology completed by August 1, 2023
Broad understanding of foundational concepts in biology and microbiology
Minimum experience of one semester teaching undergraduate students
Demonstrate a sincere commitment to undergraduate education
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
Commitment to addressing issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, and other issues of historical marginalization
