West Virginia University Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is currently accepting applications for a Systems Administrator (Professional Technologist 2).

About the Opportunity

As a Systems Administrator, you will support the laboratory, classroom, and technology needs of the faculty, staff and students. Day to day operations include the maintenance and troubleshooting of computers, printers, classroom technology, computer installation, software installation and software updates.

What you’ll do:

Active Directory Administration and Support
Set up and administer groups of machines and users
Computer administration (add to AD and make sure in correct groups)
Maintain and create OU containers
Administer rights to AD computers
Correct any login issues to Active Directory
Maintain a stable SCCM environment to support mission critical applications and resources for teaching, research, and staff
Responsible for the implementation and Administration of Statler College’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Infrastructure.
Independently maintains SCCM structure for Statler College
Assure that all Statler machines are communicating with the SCCM server
Build deployment packages for Statler software
Create and Query reports
Create and deploy task sequences
Group Policy Administration and Support
Create, change, and maintain group policy objects for Statler college users and computers
Responsible for the development and deployment of all Statler College software Images
Create and maintain all images for Statler College
Reimage all lab and classroom computers at least once per year and additionally as needed
Image machine with software issues as needed
Software Testing and Support
Compatibility testing for new software packages
Document process for new software installs
Research, test, and implement solutions related to software integration and compatibility
Classroom and Lab Support
Troubleshoot classroom software problems
Troubleshoot machine hardware failures
Troubleshoot classroom audio and video equipment
Computer Encryption
Encrypt laptops using bitlocker
Assist users if/when they lock themselves out of their machine
Print Server
Maintain printers managed through Active Directory
Add new printers
Maintain driver packages for printer installs
Function as a Professional Technologist for the Statler College Help Desk
Assist student interns in resolving in-depth/complicated computer problems.
Provide (Tier 2) support of the technological needs of the Statler College
Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and phones.
Assist users in logging onto Local Area Networks (LANs), using applications software, and accessing information services.
Improve task efficiency through automation scripting (primarily Powershell)

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
Working in a computer laboratory setting (Higher education setting preferred)
Installing and configuring personal computers
Installing and configuring Microsoft applications
Removing viruses and malware, while maintaining data integrity
Experience maintaining classroom / lab computers (Higher education setting preferred)
Experience configuring group policy settings
Automated software installation preferably utilizing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
Experience building software images and performing integration testing
Experience using multicast disc imaging software, preferably Symantec Ghost
Experience working in an enterprise Active Directory environment
Experience creating deployments and tasks sequences in SCCM
Advanced Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software
Ability to load, customize, and maintain software on microcomputers and LAN systems
Ability to navigate Microsoft Active Directory
Ability to build software image and perform integration testing (Microsoft SCCM preferred)
Experience with Local Area Network (LAN) technologies
Excellent skills in troubleshooting and correcting computer problems and malfunctions
Ability to work methodically on complex computer or information technology problems
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, on complex information technology problems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
The ability to acquire new information and knowledge and apply this information and knowledge to the solution of abstract technical problems
The ability to work with technical and non-technical users on technical issues and problems
The ability to supervise interns and student workers
Outstanding people skills including positive attitude, outgoing personality, customer support orientation, a genuine concern for client welfare, and the ability to deal effectively with difficult people
