Summary

The Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC) has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Technician I.  Under general supervision, the laboratory technician I provides routine care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe, sanitary, and ethical manner. Primary working areas include standard housing areas in the mouse facility as well as wet laboratory (Dr. Pavan Reddy's laboratory) at the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates with researchers on mouse colony maintenance and helps genotype mice.
  • Maintains accurate genotyping and mouse colony records. 
  • Interacts with senior researchers to meet their research needs and maintains a positive working relationship with CCM animal care staff/management.
  • Enters data into research database.
  • Operates laboratory equipment.
  • Assists in preparing biological specimens for analysis.
  • Ensures adherence to standard operating procedures and compliance with AALAS standards. 
  • Exhibits good listening skills, is self-motivated, and effectively provides verbal communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. in Biology, Genetics, Animal Physiology, or a related field.
  • Experience with animal euthanasia and handling of live animals.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge in basic molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis).
  • Attention to detail and excellent record keeping skills.
