Summary

The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR) at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking Research Technician with a molecular biology background to work in a production environment processing samples for metagenomics and microbiome research. This position is in a CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory and will support projects containing a diverse array of sample types from collaborators around the world. The successful candidate will be trained in the latest next generation sequencing library preparation techniques and use of multiple Illumina sequencing machines. This will include associated sequencing library QC platforms such as Fragment Analyzer, Tapestation, and Blue Pippin. They will also receive training in qPCR assay setup on the Quantstudio DX platform.

Job Duties

  • Conducts DNA and RNA QC, both automated and manual, using qubit and picogreen assays.
  • Performs sequencing library preparations using any number of commercial kits and associated QC techniques.
  • Performs defined qPCR assays.
  • Prepares sequencing libraries for loading on Illumina NovaSeq, MiSeq, and iSeq platforms.
  • Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and documentation of tasks within the Wrike project management platform.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Use of single and multi-channel pipettors.
  • Calculation of molar concentrations.
  • PCR/pPCR assay setup and machine operation.
  • DNA quantification/qualification via qubit and picogreen
  • SOP Management.
