Summary
The Business Intelligence Analyst Senior, designs, develops and maintains reports, graphs, dashboards and portal interfaces appropriate for audiences throughout Michigan Medicine. They manage and/or administer the design and development of data structures and data extracts to support comprehensive data collection, loading, and extraction for complex reporting and analyses. As part of this role the BIA gathers, analyzes and interprets data to identify opportunities to display information that will enhance the ability for report recipients to identify issues and improve the quality of care in the inpatient and ambulatory settings. This position works with the analytic and data management staff to mine and manipulate internal and external, clinical and administrative data from a variety of databases for the purpose of measuring processes and outcomes of care, medical and disease management, assessment of physician practice patterns and case management. With Leads and clients, Senior Analysts design report formats and graphical representations of data to present findings in an actionable manner. Senior Analysts develop detailed timelines and resource plans, define requirements, identify risks, create project documentation, report status to team and stakeholders, track and escalate issues. They help to lead and train Intermediate and Associate staff. Analysts utilize data extraction and reporting tools (SQL, R and Tableau) to analyze information, summarize findings, recommendations and next steps.

Responsibilities*
Reporting: (40%)

Design report formats and graphical representations of data intended for audiences ranging from senior leaders and clinicians to the general public
Deliver graphical presentations (dashboards, reports, portal interfaces) of provider, product, program, and service specific data to internal staff, clinicians, UMHS leaders, relevant committees, and other constituencies.
Develop and maintain supporting documentation of measurement methods and algorithms, data sources and reporting processes.
Conceptualize and develop cross-functional client/unit strategic objectives, business processes, and initiatives that drive or increase organizational value.
Work with the clinical information analysts, data managers and business systems analysts to plan and implement the data management and analysis of products and programs, including definition of data requirements, data capture and storage, analyses required to measure and evaluate performance, and reporting needs.
Lead and guide business process improvement discussions leading to advice on potential problem resolutions including gathering the support and resources for BI initiatives.
Manage cross functional unit projects and/or teams which include project planning, task management, status reporting, etc.
Data Support: (40%)

Review reports and analyses. Test datasets.
Extract data for reporting from departmental and EMR sources. Administer the design and development of data structures and data extracts to support comprehensive data collection, loading, and extraction needed for reporting.
Define and help create mechanisms to extract and reorganize data from existing systems for storage and reporting in departmental databases
Participate in the development of communication related to the analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of health services data.
Work with team members and DM team to identify and automate tools that deliver routine performance information.
Automate the data extract and maintenance of dashboards, support other BIAs when they are on PTO
Maintain on-going reporting for the dashboards and reports developed in this role and by others.
Maintain communication with technical groups inside and outside department.
Ensure adherence to quality standards and facilitate improvement efforts.
Follow all appropriate data quality and security guidelines
Analytics: (15%)

Apply knowledge of data analytics, population health, clinical information, disease processes, measurement and analysis to the completion of complex assignments.
Produce analytic results by creating and applying algorithms to data which are extracted and integrated across multiple sources.
?Translate clinical and business needs into analytical solutions
Conduct analysis and reporting of clinical and operational data.
Evaluate performance, utilization, quality of care and patient safety measures against results from peer institutions
Conduct analyses on cost performance and facilitate assessment of physician practice patterns and medical and disease management
Collaborate with physicians, administrators, senior analysts and others to produce metrics to assess and improve performance
Validate data quality and reasonableness in reports and/or analyses of health services prior to distribution.
Communicate and collaborate with other departments to address problems with data quality.
