National Weather Center (NWC) Security Officer performs as a non-commissioned (unarmed) uniformed security officer for the National Weather Center as part of the OU Police Department. NWC Security Officer performs patrols of the facility and grounds, monitors security CCTV cameras, responds to fire and emergency calls. Also serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED.


Skills:

  • Customer service
  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English.
  • Basic computer skills

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license, must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to pass police and US Dept of Commerce background investigation. 
  • Must be a US or naturalized citizen (possess a permanent US residence card).

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to speak clear and concise English; ability to walk, climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time; see well, including color, depth perception and clarity; willingness to wear and maintain uniforms, including head covering.
  • Must be willing to conform to department appearance standard.
  • Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass Post Offer Employment Test (POET).
  • Must be able to lift at least 62 pounds weight from the floor.
  • Must be able to push a maximum force of 120 pounds.
  • Must be able to pull a maximum force of 125 pounds.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Previous security experience
  • CPR and first aid certifications
