Summary

The RA1 position in the Integrated Microscopy Core (IMC), a long-lasting institutional core facility that serves >75 labs/year, is a team science position with the following duties: 1) maintain the core instrumentation in proper functioning order; 2) help and train all level investigators (from students to staff and faculty) in several microscopy techniques 3) perform experiments, basic image analysis and develop assays within the core, and 4) perform some administrative duties.

Job Duties

  • Inspect and maintain of core instruments. 
  • Train users on all the core instruments. 
  • Perform imaging for users (assisted use). 
  • Train users in basic protocols for sample prep (immunofluorescence/RNA FISH). 
  • Perform some experimental work for core users (i.e., IHC, HT-IF etc.) - this may include the use of basic molecular biology techniques (transfections and infections). 
  • Develop new imaging-based methods. 
  • Perform basic image analysis.
  • Help with reports for the core, users, grant applications etc. 
  • Coordinate calendar booking, monthly billing and other administrative duties. 
  • Order supplies needed for the core. 
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer a M.S. or a B.S. plus 2 years of experience, in biological sciences.
  • Basic knowledge of microscopy and cell culture techniques is a plus but not required as training will be provided.
  • Social skills and the capability of working in teams are essential
