The Department of Facilities Management is hiring a Utility Plant Maintenance Manager to join our Campus Utility System team! This position will be responsible for providing customer-oriented leadership and will oversee the general and daily operations of the Utility Plant maintenance. We proudly serve the University by supporting, preserving, and improving the campus environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for utility plant operations, maintenance, and/or utility distribution associated with district energy and utility infrastructure, including but not limited to responsibility for associated asset management, employee time management and workload balance, customer interaction, operational budget, and policy development.
  • Supervises, supports, and performs personnel-related activities involved with daily operations, hiring, promotion, termination, performance issues, position changes and compensation. Orients new staff to University and OU Facilities Management policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and facilitates equipment repairs and maintenance including but not limited to, commercial water tube boilers and centrifugal chillers, steam turbines, CTGs, cooling towers, pumps, valves, diesel generators, natural gas generators, reverse osmosis units, air compressors, water and electric meters, switching cubicles, breakers, relays, motors, VFDs, transformers, distribution electrical cable, and SCADA systems.
  • Tracks scheduled and unscheduled corrective, predictive and preventative maintenance in asset management program to ensure proper documentation and historical record for steam, chilled water, compressed air, di-ionized water, and electric plant equipment.
  • Anticipates staffing needs by analyzing workflow and strengths of employees. Maintains work load balance.
  • Prepares monthly reports for work completion, employee hour tracking, and operational and maintenance costs. Manages work order backlog and schedules employee workload as needed.
  • Creates, reviews, and recommends project work scope. Creates project estimates.
  • Collaborates with leadership and departments across campus regarding project statuses and completion.
  • Works with vendors for estimates, job costs, scheduling, work management, and invoicing.
  • Makes recommendations for change and develops strategies for change.
  • Schedules and manages equipment inspections.
  • Reconciles credit card purchases. Creates and manages purchase orders for materials associated with the shop.
  • Serves as liaison to coordinate inter- and intra-departmental functions.
  • Performs various duties as needed to fulfill the function of the position successfully.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree AND

  • 36 months of experience related to the essential duties, including 12 months of supervisory experience. 

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of experience related to the essential duties in lieu of the Bachelor's degree, including 12 months of supervisory experience for a total of 84 months of experience.

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive)
  • Detailed oriented for accuracy of information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and tasks
  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport within a facilities management department
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Communicate effectively and listen.
  • Engage in repetitive motion. Reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Must be able to grasp, reach, twist, bend, and kneel.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Standard office environment, with exposure to electrical, dust, and noise.
  • Use of computer, calculator, and telephone.
  • Work in a power plant environment with large machinery and utility construction sites.
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Exposure to steam, medium and high voltage electrical, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold and heat, wet, humid, and noisy environments.
  • When required, must wear appropriate safety PPE.
  • May be designated as an "essential position" during emergency closures.
  • May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.

Supervision: Supervises maintenance staff in assigned functional area.
