The School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering's (AME) Student Services Specialist will assist in the recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students and continuous program improvement.

Typical job duties include:

  • Monitors student progress through the curriculum, working with the Williams Student Services Center staff, to assist undergraduate students in resolving academic problems.
  • Counsels students, facilitates support groups, and advises student organizations.
  • Works with the leadership in setting up mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Interfaces with the College communication staff to create newsletters, brochures, and other publications to assist with recruitment and showcase the accomplishments of the faculty and students
  • Gather and prepare data to promote continuous program improvement including an inclusive environment
  • Assist in organizing events to help in the professional development of students
  • Serves as a liaison between on and off campus
  • Coordinate, manage, and assist with various projects in the school as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education:  High School Diploma or GED and some College, AND: 

  • 18 months experience in office supervision/management or student services

Skills:

  • Detail Oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Composition and proofreading skills
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Must be able to coordinate and guide students, communicating directions and expectations effectively

Advertised Physical Requirements:

Regular pressure to meet deadlines. May be required to bend, lift, stoop, carry, move and climb stairs. May be required to sit for sustained periods at computer. Must be able to engage in repetitive motions including movements of the hands, wrists or fingers and communicate effectively including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience with OU Policies and Procedures
  • Experience with event planning
  • 12 months experience working with student programs
