The Associate Equal Opportunity and Title IX Officer reports to the Institutional Equity and Title IX Coordinator and manages and oversees the due/hearing process for complaints of discrimination and Title IX grievances at the Health Sciences Center and Tulsa campuses. This individual will direct all investigations of discrimination, Title IX, and other sexual misconduct on those campuses, as assigned by the Institutional Equity Officer and Title IX Coordinator.

Duties:

  • Assist in the administration of the University's Equal Opportunity, Title IX, and Affirmative Action programs; provide services to the campus necessary to meet Affirmative Action, Equal Employment, and Equal Educational Opportunities commitments.
  • Coordinates Equal Opportunity and Title IX programs on the OU HSC and Tulsa campuses to assure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, processes, and training in compliance with anti-discrimination legislation and regulations, including Title VII, Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, ADA, etc.
  • Serves as initial point of contact for students, faculty, staff and third parties for campus Equal Opportunity, Sexual Misconduct and Discrimination and Harassment Policies.
  • Conducts investigations and makes recommendations regarding the resolution of complaints involving violations of University Non-Discrimination and Harassment Policies.
  • To include collection of pertinent information, completion of thorough investigations within timelines, and timely communication with parties in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Conducts regular training and provides educational materials to inform staff, faculty and students of rights, responsibilities, and updates regarding University Non-Discrimination and Harassment Policies.
  • Prepares detailed investigation plans and investigation reports
  • Prepares annual statistical report on the number, nature, and disposition of complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct; track cases, data, and trends related to discrimination and sexual misconduct complaints, determination and trainings; identify patterns and make recommendations to address them.
  • Assist in the development and publication of the Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the Institutional Equity Office.
 

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 36 months of demonstrated experience conducting Equal Opportunity, Title IX, compliance, or employment law investigations

Equivalent/Substitution: An equivalent combination of education and experience, except that there is no substitution for 12 months of experience conducting investigations.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to interpret federal, state, and local laws and regulations relevant to higher education (including but not necessarily limited to Title IX, Executive Order 11246, FERPA, Clery Act, Title VII, ADAA, and the Rehabilitation Act).
  • Strong organization, planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to remain neutral.
  • Demonstrated ability to communication effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Discretion, good judgment, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies, including students, staff, administration, and community partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to deal with individuals after the individual has experienced a highly emotional or traumatic experience.
  • Advanced composition and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet assigned due dates.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel as required for investigations, training or conferences.

Preferences: 

  • Advanced degree and five or more years of professional experience investigating and resolving employment and civil rights complaints, including complaints of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct
  • Experience in higher education, particularly in the practice of investigations, compliance, employment law, as applied in this unique setting.

Supervision: Equity Compliance Investigator

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Must be able to work in sitting position. Ability to engage in repetitive motion.
  • Environmental: Standard Office Work Environment.
