Under supervision, perform duties related to application of various types of coatings to surfaces of University facilities by means of mechanical and/or manual processes, complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Job Function:

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

Vocational School Training

Minimum Experience:

1. Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Painting as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training, or six (6) years of experience as a painter, or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
2. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures, and communications, and perform mathematical calculations.
3. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy. .
4. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
5.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain, mix, and blend paints and other coatings.
  • Operate paint application equipment involving spray guns.
  • Apply paint, varnish, shellac, and other desired coatings to wood, concrete, brick, metal, or other surfaces as directed.
  • Read and comprehend blue prints, drawings, and sketches to insure proper specifications are followed.
  • Operate, set up, and check power lift equipment.
  • Move and erect ladders, scaffolds, and other painting platforms as required for the job; move furniture and office equipment.
  • Repair all wall surfaces including drywall, plaster, radex, and vinyl; caulk and glaze windows as required.
  • Apply wall paper and vinyl coverings.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals, environmental concerns, building codes, and technological advancement/improvements.
  • Clean and maintain all department equipment and tools as required; clean up worksites; report all damaged and missing equipment or tools to the supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
