Qualifications:

SPED 233-01 - Behavioral Supports in the Learning Environment

February 6, 2023 - May 26, 2023, Thursday, 4:15pm - 7:00 pm

SPED 233 is an introductory course designed to teach candidates for the Counseling Department School Psychology degree program the competencies needed in order to maintain a safe and productive learning environment for all students in the classroom. Graduate students will understand how behavior is related to the context in which it occurs and understand how behavior serves a purpose or function for the student. To this end, students will conduct a Data Analysis Summary and Functional Behavioral Analysis utilizing appropriate surveys and data collection tools. In addition, a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) or Learning Plan, that is student specific, will be developed based upon positive behavior supports, prevention strategies and special education law.

Qualifications:


Master's Degree in School Psychology or Special Education


5 years experience as a mild/moderate education specialist or school psychologist in K-12 settings. Must have worked in preK-12 schools within the past 3 years.


Knowledge of the range of positive behavioral practices and support for young children and young adults.


Familiarity with the array of assessment techniques for collecting data for behavior intervention plans.
