The Ball State University Housing department has an opening for a 3rd shift part time night staff supervisor. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys evening hours to provide a secure environment for people living in University residential areas . A .35/hour third shift premium will be added to the wage.

Job Function:

Provide a secure living environment for people living in university residential areas; perform minor maintenance; check doors; monitor mechanical system alarms; review cameras.

Minimum Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Associate's degree from an accredited institution in industrial mechanics or security.

Minimum Experience:

One through three years of experience with industrial mechanics, security or residential living; possess and maintain a valid driver's license; possess good communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

At least one year of experience with college population.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Secure various residential areas on campus; includes checking and securing doors, making rounds, and walking buildings.
  • Prepare operational policies and procedures concerning residence security, night staff operations and facilities.
  • Perform minor maintenance as needed, including but not limited to periodic, scheduled cleaning of swipe access technology, inventorying and monitoring of fire extinguishers, securing broken windows, lock repairs etc.
  • Provide information to various housing and university officials concerning campus security, including but not limited to reports of activities, security concerns, suggestions etc.
  • Act as liaison with University Police, contacting and assisting them as needed to ensure security in residential areas, including but not limited to notifying them of potential or actual criminal situations.
  • Provide guidance to students by assisting residents with information regarding university security policies as well as personal safety issues.
  • Prepare periodic reports concerning residence security.
  • Respond to campus crises through appropriate channels; includes incidents within residence buildings, criminal activity, medical emergencies, mechanical problems, etc.
  • Maintain compliance with FCC regulations regarding use of radio units.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
