Overview
The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) promotes NIU student career success through the creative and efficient use of information technology that supports teaching and learning, administration, and research at all of NIU’s campuses. This central IT division manages administrative and academic computing, identity management and security, telecommunications, and the NIU network.
Position Summary
The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Applications Developer III designs, implements, and supports technical solutions to manage information and to support NIU’s ERP business and academic operations. The Applications Developer interacts with enterprise-wide users to ensure ERP system modules function effectively and meet business requirements. This position consults with users to research, recreate, and resolve production issues and/or apply fixes and to discuss new system requirements and modifications. The Applications Developer may interact with vendors to achieve solutions. This position provides technical support for ERP modules to troubleshoot, code, develop, debug, and test technical solutions. The individual assists with training to meet customers’ special needs. This position works with the system administrators to test system patches and upgrades to ensure up-to-date and efficient operability. This role performs initial run-through testing on software components and utilizes reports to verify changes. The individual performs technical assessments and modifies programs to utilize new data structures. The Applications Developer utilizes database knowledge to maximize efficiencies. Must provide off-hour on-call support when required.

This position is currently 100% remote, but candidate is required to establish Illinois residency within 180 days of hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinates Development and Testing of Application Solutions
Interacts with ERP team members to design technical components for highly reusable and maintainable components for meeting NIU standards.
Develops programming code solutions to meet defined requirements.
Implements the designed components using selected technologies to meet solutions requirements.
Conducts unit testing and system integration testing to validate solutions.
Interacts with customers to ensure requirements are met.

2. Coordinates Gathering and Analysis of Requests
Interacts with customers and stakeholders to gather, analyze, and validate requests.
Utilizes a NIU-chosen framework analysis template to determine data sources and requirements.
Partners with Applications Developer team members to review complex solutions proposals.
Complies with NIU documentation standards to clearly document findings and utilize task tracking tools for tracking progress.

3. Coordinates Deployment and Maintenance of Applications
Documents steps taken to support applications migrations to the next environment.
Interacts with Database and Systems Administrators to ensure proper database table and messaging set-up.
Create process and object definition documents to provide documentation for production control.
Provides on-call support to ensure applications’ operability and to meet customer expectations.
Responds to production program issues to drive resolutions.

4. Coordinates Implementation of Bundles and Upgrades
Analyzes changes in bundles and upgrades to determine impact on customizations and to determine testing needs.
Reapplies NIU customizations and unit testing to redeploy customizations following upgrades.
Coordinates quality assurance (QA) testing with functional leads and provides testing assistance to correct and resolve problems resulting from vendor software changes.
Interacts with vendor technical resources to ensure modules are not affected by modifications.

5. Acts as ERP Applications Support Team and/or Project Lead
Mentors junior team members to teach and elevate team skills levels.
Manages small to medium technical projects to meet customers’ deadlines and business needs.
Shares ERP Applications knowledge with NIU DoIT (Division of Information Technology) to expand knowledge.
Acts as an ERP Applications resource enterprise-wide to provide expertise for developing solutions.

6. Performs Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a closely related discipline.

2. Five (5) years of progressively more responsible work experience in design, development/programming, writing and debugging SQL, implementation and testing of technical solutions to support software applications and systems

3. Eighteen (18) months of PeopleSoft experience, including the following:
PeopleSoft Development tools, such as SQR, Application Designer, PeopleCode, Application Engine, PS Query, BI Publisher, Integration Broker;
PeopleSoft maintenance and upgrade methodology;
PeopleSoft application modules and associated tables

Minimum of five (5) years of work experience designing and developing solutions and providing technical support for PeopleSoft FSCM, HCM, and/or Campus Solutions in a large-scale production environment.
Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency using PeopleSoft development tools, including SQR, Application Designer, PeopleCode, Application Engine, PS Query, BI Publisher, and Integration Broker.
Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency writing and debugging SQL.
Understanding of the PeopleSoft maintenance and upgrade methodology.
Intermediate to advanced level of knowledge of PeopleSoft application modules and associated tables.
