The Director of Career Development manages the overall administration, day to day operations, and budget of the College of Law Career Development office (CDO). 

Duties:

  • Coordinates student career programming and events including training and skills workshops, weekly Lunch and Learns, alumni networking programs, and Professional Development Program.
  • Responsible for reporting graduation and employee data to the American Bar Association, the U.S. News & World Report, and National Association of Law Placement as required by each entity for purposes of law school rankings and recruiting.
  • Counsels current College of Law students on career job searching, resumes, cover letters, writing samples, and professional development, salary negotiations, job search strategies, follow up with employers, and all aspects related to a legal job search.
  • Develops alumni and employer outreach programs.
  • Manages the overall administration, day to day operation, and budget of the College of Law Career Development office.
  • Oversees the management of OU College of Law's fall and spring on-campus employer interviews, recruitment programs.
  • Manages staff and serves on the College's Leadership team.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND: 

  • 48 months of experience in student services, law or business

Equivalency/Substitution: 48 months of related experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months of related experience. 

Skills:

  • Superior verbal communication skills, including interpersonal, public speaking and counseling skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, positive and collaborative work relations within the department and with students and employers.
  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff.
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
  • Skilled at counseling/mentoring students.

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license to travel to various events.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate.  Must be able to stand, engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear and see including color, depth perception and clarity.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience in Career Development
  • Juris Doctorate
