The Stephenson Cancer Center’s Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) is now hiring for a Senior Staff Research Assistant - HPRC. This position works as a TSET Health Promotion Research Center team member on multiple ongoing research studies that use smartphones, tablets, and sensors (e.g., mobile carbon monoxide monitor, GPS) to collect data and automatically intervene to reduce unhealthy behaviors in real-time. The Senior Staff Research Assistant will work closely with the Senior Program Manager to oversee and delegate research activities, manage participant payments, and create smartphone apps. Duties also include data collection, record keeping, data analyses, and report preparation. Research studies include multiple NIH funded and pilot randomized controlled trials focused on health behavior change (e.g., smoking cessation, alcohol use reduction/cessation, marijuana use reduction/cessation). Duties:

  • Data Collection. Supervises and trains staff in statewide and nationwide data collection procedures including the informed consent process, interaction with research participants, and actual data collection (e.g., in person questionnaires, smartphone-based questionnaires).
  • Record Keeping. Meticulously follows study protocols. Maintains clear, concise, and consistent logs of reported issues and work performed. Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication.
  • Task Delegation. Delegates tasks among research coordinators, technicians, and assistants. Ensures all tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Project Assistance. Assists principal investigator. May recruit research subjects, provide administrative assistance, oversee the daily operations of the project, etc. Presents study updates and other research materials to the principal investigator, other team members, and potentially at local and national conferences.
  • Data Analysis. Works with team Biostatisticians to conduct data analyses. Discusses data analyses with principal investigator.
  • As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or Physical Science or related field

Experience: 24 months research laboratory experience

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in the aforementioned fields in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree, for a total of 72 months combined research assistant and/or technician experience

Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in research methods including clinical trial data collection procedures and IRB processes
  • Pays close attention to detail
  • Experience with patient recruitment preferred
  • Ability to analyze data and keep records
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to supervise research technicians or assistants

Department Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, or other Healthcare field.
  • Knowledge and experience with clinical trial data collection.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. Exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, odors, and/or carcinogens.
