POSITION INFORMATION:

We are in search of one early childhood substitute teacher for our Happy Teacher Project. Teaching Support Staff Specialists will serve in a long-term substitute teaching position in Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms to support teachers who are participating in the Happy Teacher Project intervention. This position is seasonal and are based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Teaching Support Staff Specialists are expected to work up to five days a week for up to 4 hours per day during the project intervention (fall and spring).

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1.   Substitute Teaching. Supports children and teachers in assigned early childhood classrooms. Oversees young children ages birth to 5. Provides high quality direct care for children, including supervising play and developmentally appropriate activities, feeding, diapering. Assists teachers with all classroom-related duties.  

2.   Record Keeping. Keeps detailed record of hours, mileage and training received while employed with the University.

 

Job Requirements

Education: Associate Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field required. Bachelor's degree in related fields preferred.  

Experience: At least six months experience teaching in a child care classroom with children aged birth to 5 is required. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/ and Other Characteristics: 

  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.
  • Strong computer and oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethics and professionalism.
  • Scheduling flexibility required. Must be able to work up to 4 hours per day during regular work hours (M-F).
  • Local and possibly statewide travel required.  
  • Must pass OSBI fingerprinting background check.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
