The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility Manager maintains the daily operation of the NMR facility. Provides technical support and routine maintenance to all NMR spectrometers housed in the facility. Offer training workshops to students, staff, and faculty to enable them to use the facility independently. Oversees the safety of the facility and the users. Provides professional administrative, academic, and scientific support pertaining to the use of the NMR facility in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

This position ensures continuous operation of the NMR facility, handles operational budget and all financial transcations associated with the use of the NMR facility. Provides GTA training, participates in coursework instruction that support the instructional and research mission of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

This position coordinates with GTAs, Instructors, Electronic Shop, departmental administration and other units within and outside of OU to faciliate instructional, research, and development in regional communities.

Duties may include, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for routine calibration, maintenance and repair of instrumentation
  • Maintains supplies/consumables
  • Organizes and effectively manages NMR/EPR sign-up and scheduling policy
  • Maintains NMR facility policies as determined by the Departmental Users’ Group
  • Utilizes expert knowledge in appropriate software and hardware to effectively operate instrumentation
  • Provides appropriate user training for NMR and EPR instrumentation
  • Provide instruction/education on pertinent theory and principles of operation
  • Supervise hands-on use by researchers
  • Ensures that operators are properly trained and promotes continued improvements in abilities of all users
  • Works with research groups to design and implement non-routine NMR experiments
  • Interpret/analyze data as necessary and appropriate
  • Provides training for and assists with laboratory experiments associated with undergraduate and graduate instruction/courses
  • Maintain a website on the departmental NMR & EPR facility
  • Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Master's degree, AND:

  • 36 months related research experience, including supervision. 

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 72 months of related research experience in lieu of the master's degree for a total of 108 months of related experience.

  • Able to supervise students and communicate directions and expectations effectively.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines.

  • Sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions

Department Preferences:

  • Prefer Degree Qualification: Ph.D.
