TITLE- Applications Developer (level I)

Team- OU IT Digital Innovations Group (DIG)

A Python developer should at least have some prior experience with Python, whether personal, professional, or academic.  Experience with Django is preferred, though not required.  Must be able to work on a variety of projects and be willing to learn new technologies.  Contributions to the team would include handling service desk tickets, writing tests for projects, and creating code to help maintain existing projects as well as to contribute to new and ongoing applications.  Using workflow and collaboration tools will also be integral to supporting our team and being a successful contributor.

This person is expected to work closely with administrative and academic offices to plan and implement application system capabilities that will enhance services for our students, faculty, and staff.  

This position will assist with ongoing efforts to document, develop, enhance and maintain administrative and academic applications in a manner consistent with established priorities and prevailing software development practices.  The successful candidate will analyze business needs; participate in the design of web sites, web applications, and mobile device applications; develop and test application code; research and solve application system problems in program code and at the database level.  May be responsible for providing consulting support to other technical areas of the University.  This position will collaborate with project managers, and colleagues throughout OU to assure compatibility and consistency across application systems and platforms.

Duties-

  • Determine requirements for application development initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of new technology trends through continual learning and cross training.
  • provide maintenance and support to existing web applications.
  • Meet with University departments and colleges to promote application development and build partnerships.
  • Research and solve application system problems in program code and at the database level.
  • Provide consulting support to other technical areas of the University.  

Toolsets-

Version control (such as Github or Bitbucket), Django, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Linux. 

 

Job Requirements

Required Education:  Bachelor's degree.   

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of software design and programming principles
  • Knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools
  • Ability to program in at least one programming language
  • Ability to analytically think and have problem solving skills
  • Good mathematical and problem-solving skills
