Summary

The University of Michigan Museum of Art is looking for a graphic designer who is a creative partner to help realize the potential of our vision and is excited by the idea of redefining what a campus art museum can be. You will partner with curatorial, exhibition, and installation teams to create graphic design materials for UMMA's exhibitions, collections galleries, printed materials, and online presence. We will work as a collaborative team across the Museum on both large and small projects. You will report to the Director of Exhibitions & Publications.

Responsibilities*

Creating typographic design identities for the Museum's exhibitions and collections galleries (title wall graphics, gallery labels and related didactics that may include section panels, timelines, etc.)
Designing print materials such as gallery guides, programming cards, and other exhibition-related takeaways for visitors
Working in collaboration with curators, project managers, and technicians to conceptualize the visitor in-gallery experience thinking holistically about colors, typography, and clear, beautiful visual communication of exhibition ideas to a broad public
Creating style guides and digital assets to assist the Museum marketing team in development of exhibition web pages
Printing labels for in-house production and packaging design files to external printers; managing outsourced production work to ensure the highest quality and meeting deadlines for installation
Managing a portfolio of projects and their various deadlines in alignment with installation and production schedules
Required Qualifications*

2+ years experience in designing for the museum and/or cultural sector
Proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and the Google suite
Versed in design fundamentals and skilled in print, interactive, and exhibition design; familiarity with digital- and web-based formats (css, svg, gif, etc) *
Experience designing graphics for use on websites and digital advertising platforms *
Experience working with printers and fabricators is essential as some of our projects involve unique materials or specifications.

Additional Information

Time requirements: This is an 80% appointment - You have the flexibility to work primarily remote, but will be required to be onsite during graphics installation. The posted salary range reflects the 80% appointment. This position is still eligible for benefits.
