What You'll Do

Manage a team to assist in the troubleshooting of the wireless network as part of the University’s critical network infrastructure. Currently, the wireless network is comprised of 5,200 access points in 200 buildings, including divisional campuses, and services over 16,000 clients daily. It is the primary connection method for our students, and a critical service for faculty and staff who need to remain connected while away from their offices.
Manage a team to design, implement and troubleshoot the University’s Layer 2 network as part of the critical infrastructure. The Layer 2 infrastructure consists of all POP and Access Layer switches on the WVU network including the Morgantown, Keyser and Beckley campuses.
Manage a team to maintain network the operational functionality of the campus network
Coordinate protocols for operations within the WVU system for voice, data, and video needs.
Assist in maintaining a lab for testing new technologies and operating systems.
Manage user accounts that access campus SSL VPN.
Monitor overall performance of the campus access layer for every building. Maintain configuration consistency across campus devices. Provide redundant connections and services as physical wiring permits. Retain up-to-date backup copies of all device configurations. Develop written procedures for all work related to network operations. Assist in keeping equipment/software maintenance contracts updated.
Plan and upgrade software upgrades to networking devices ensuring the latest security and feature sets are in place. Maintain documentation pertaining to IOS versions across campus. Monitor and check systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recover/repairs after a failure. Checks and responds to errors logged by infrastructure devices.
Maintain Network Services inventory. Provide accurate documentation of equipment serial numbers, asset tag, location and purchase information in the Inventory database.
Manage and maintain the Infoblox implementation. This is critical to the daily operations of all users on the WVU wired and wireless network.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and directly related work experience.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience involving:
Experience designing, implementing and managing complex enterprise wireless networks servicing at least 5,000 devices daily.
Experience implementing and managing complex enterprise wired networks including routing protocols.
Thorough knowledge of Cisco Routers, Switches, Unified Communications, Wireless Access Points
Thorough knowledge of Internet TCP/IP protocols such as DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, TELNET, FTP, WWW, SSH
Thorough knowledge of Layer 2 of the OSI model including Ethernet, Spanning Tree, LACP and VTP.
Thorough knowledge of Infoblox.
Thorough knowledge of Palo Alto Networks appliances
Demonstrate the ability to manage a team of engineers.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of transport, routing and security/authentication protocols at all layers of the OSI model.
Demonstrated ability to design, troubleshoot and manage complex enterprise wireless networks.
Demonstrated ability to design, troubleshoot and manage complex enterprise wired network including switching protocols such as Spanning Tree and VTP.
Demonstrated knowledge of today’s network security risks and demonstrated ability to mitigate those risks through design, tools, and process/procedure. Demonstrated knowledge of VPNs and firewalls. Specifically, demonstrate knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls.
Troubleshoot RADIUS authentication software such as Cisco ISE.
Demonstrated ability to implement and manage performance monitoring tools.
Knowledge of various operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Demonstrated ability to use analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot complex problems. Ability to guide others in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences.
