Job Description

Summary

The Clinical Applications Associate supports the implementation, managing and triaging of Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Laboratory Information System (LIS) or other clinical related appliactions. This role wil primarily develop/supports Epic, Epic LIS related build, testing, validating and implementing clinical projects across Baylor Medicine. This includes facilitating third party lab systems, external LIS systems, genomics, research and participating in other Epic integration projects.

Job Duties

  • Proactively analyzes, investigates, resolves and documents data issues in clinical applications and dictionaries to ensure accuracy, consistency and data integrity.
  • Resolves clinical care work queues such as clinical documents, lab results, patient merges and provider interface errors.
  • Participates in device management, EMR integration and troubleshooting. 
  • Performs analysis and validation of data related data dictionaries, data interfaces and application security.
  • Provides operational/data support in identifying and resolving issues related to data and data integrity.
  • Identifies enhancement opportunities and assist in the streamlining of processes to increase system functionality and productivity.
  • Identifies, analyzes, tracks and report system and other related problems and issues to the Clinical Application Manager and Department User Liaisons.
  • Participates in project management activities related to application and module implementations.
  • Provides training, helpdesk and technical support to Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) clients and BCM affiliated clients.
  • Requires on-call, afterhours and weekend support.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to manage multiple and often conflicting tasks. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to foster teamwork and negotiations. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or applicable work experience.
  • Two years of directly related clinical or lab support experience. 
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with at least two years of laboratory experience and support.
  • Additional training and expertise in systems implementation.
  • Minimum one year of IT support.    
  • EpicCare or Beaker certification. 

Other

  • The Ancillary Team is a unique and crossfunctional team responsible for supporting multiple applications (Lab, RIS, PACS, EMR and Voice Recognition, Third Party imaging applications and Lab functions) across clinical IT. The candidate must be willing to multitasks, eager to learn and have the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • They must be competent to speak directly with stakeholders and articulate data flow and designs.
  • This role requires working effectively as part of a team and willing to collaborate across clinical IT teams.
