The Georgia Cancer Center M. Bert Storey Research Building provides quality research space to promote multidisciplinary collaborations and translational research, which is essential to creating an environment that promotes innovation. Our research approach supports important National Cancer Institute goals including ensuring every cancer patient has access to the newest and most innovative clinical trials in the nation, clinicians and researchers work together to initiate new research protocols based on the clinician’s interaction with the patient, and each cancer patient receives personalized treatment through the interaction of the multidisciplinary team of clinicians and allied health professionals.







Job Summary




The Biostatistician is to collect data from medical research and analyze it to draw conclusions or make predictions. Also, develop and execute research studies in collaboration with other scientists and monitor trials to ensure the integrity of the results.







Responsibilities




The duties include, but are not limited to:

Data Analysis:Conductdata analysis using R/Bioconductor or Python and Linux; Develop and maintain analysis pipelines.

lllumina and Ion Torrent Sequence Analysis:Conduct lllumina and ion torrent sequence analysis; Perform maintenance of Cancer Center and lllumina computing servers.

Compositions and Emerging Trends:Provide written templates tailored to individual grant applications; Prepare well-written methods sections for publications; Remain abreast of emerging trends in bioinformatics including analysis of whole genome, exome, miRNA, methyl-Seq, Chip-Seq and other emerging applicatoins.


Research Protocol:Participate in planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles; Interact with researchers and understand projects and needs of investigators to design optimal solutions for analysis of genomic and other forms of sequencing data.

Study Documentation:Review protocols, case report forms (CRFs), data management plans, data specifications and other related study documents; Create randomization schedule per study design and relevant specifications; Independently develop statistical analysis plans (SAP) in accordance with the protocols.

Data Specifications:Develop analysis data specifications; Sample size definition and calculation of endpoint analyses procedures.

Statistical Programs, Micros, and Utility Tools:Develop and validate statistical programs, micros, and utility tools; Apply advanced programming knowledge to support programming efficiencies; Prepare statistical data for inclusion in reports to data monitoring committees, federal regulatory agencies, managers, or clients/researchers.

Other:Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.







Required Qualifications




Master's degree in Biostatistics or closely related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year of experience in statistical consulting and data management.







Preferred Qualifications




In-depth knowledge of biostatistics with a focus in bioinformatics; Experience in the analysis of NG-Sequencing data; Strong data analysis experience using R/Bioconductor or Python and Linux; Experience in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data; Familiarity with Galaxy or other pipeline building system.

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer/software databases







Shift/Salary/Benefits




Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) 


Pay Grade: 18


Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
